2 Canadian HR Reporter, a Thomson Reuters business 2018 Youth facility workers vote in favour of contract HAMILTON, Ont. — The four-month lockout at the Arrell Youth Centre in Hamilton, Ont., is over as 60 members of Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), Local 216 voted nar- rowly in favour of an agreement reached on Aug. 20. The workers were locked out on April 27, 2018, after refusing to accept significant claw-backs to their contract, but they forced the employer to back down, said the union. They rejected a tentative agreement reached earlier in August, forcing the employer back to the table, according to OPSEU. Strike action closer at TVA Montreal: CUPE MONTREAL — Conflict con- tinues between Groupe TVA and its unionized employees who reiterated their intentions on Aug. 26 to boost pressure tac- tics, up to and including strike action. About 830 employees of TVA Montreal have been without a collective agreement since Dec. 31, 2016. "Our objective remains to negotiate a satisfactory collec- tive agreement for both par- ties," said Marc-André Hamelin, Montreal president of the Cana- dian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 687. "However, the issues relating to jobs being assigned to TVA affiliates and Quebecor and po- sition vacancies have to be re- solved, and to do this, support from our membership is essen- tial," said Hamelin. Numerous union members gathered at the Centre Saint- Pierre in Montreal to attend the negotiation meeting and again gave their bargaining commit- tee a strong mandate, as they had done on June 19, said the union. Several recent conciliation meetings yielded little progress, according to CUPE. On Aug. 23, the bargaining committee agreed to extend the conciliation period by a week, thereby pushing back the right to strike or lock out to Sept. 22, said the union. For several months, the union has been critical of work — which is normally done by TVA employees exclusively — being transferred to other Quebecor affiliates such as Quebecor Me- dia or even to MELS Studios and Postproduction (which is part of the TVA Group), according to CUPE. Quebec Molson-Coors workers sign agreement QUEBEC — United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW), Local 501 members at Molson-Coors achieved a new contract on Aug. 20 that will affect about 115 employees in Quebec. Working at Molson-Coors locations in Quebec City, Trois- Rivières and Val-d'Or, Local 501 employees will see gains with their new contract, including annual wage increases between one and 1.5 per cent for work- ers at the end rate on the wage scale, a $1,000 signing bonus, a $500 lump-sum payment in the second year of the deal and an increase to the DC pension plan, said the union. Employees will also receive $250 per year of eligibility for putting money into an RRSP, a $55 premium for night stays away from home and an in- crease to the boot allowance, said UFCW.
