2 Canadian HR Reporter, a Thomson Reuters business 2019 Employees at Trenton, Ont., military centre ratify deal TRENTON, Ont. — United Food and Commercial Work- ers (UFCW) Locals 175 and 633 members at the Trenton Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) in Trenton, Ont., ratified a new agreement on Dec. 18 and 19. The union negotiating com- mittee and employer reached the four-year agreement after meeting in conciliation to deal with wage increases. For the past number of years, the workers at MFRC Trenton received mostly lump-sum payments, but not rate increases, said the union. As a result of conciliation and the work of the union negotiat- ing committee, the ratified deal includes an initial increase of two per cent, which is retroactive to April 1, 2018. Subsequently, members will receive one per cent in year two, one per cent in year three, and 1.5 per cent in the fourth year. In addi- tion, the employer will increase its pension contributions by 0.5 per cent in the third year, according to UFCW. Members will also benefit from improved language surrounding shift cancellations. If the employ- er cancels a scheduled shift with less than 48 hours' notice, the em- ployee will receive four hours' pay, said the union. Employees may use their dis- cretionary paid-leave time in two- hour increments. The workers will also benefit from having 10 personal emergency leave (PEL) days per year secured in their agreement language. Plus, the employer cannot require a doc- tor's note for those 10 days, ac- cording to UFCW. About 72 employees make up the bargaining unit. IMP Aero- structures workers reject company off er AMHERST, N.S. — The work- ers at IMP Aerostructures in Amherst, N.S., represented by the United Steelworkers union (USW), rejected the latest offer from the employer which called for dramatic cuts for senior work- ers. "This offer, which the employer called their 'final offer,' was sim- ply more of the unacceptable and , frankly, insulting demands from the company," said Richard Allen, USW, Local 4883 president. The 204 workers at IMP Aero- structures make parts for the aerospace industry. However, the company is insisting that members who are 65 or older will have their life insurance cover- age reduced by 50 per cent and have their long-term-disability benefits eliminated in addition to what the UFCW said was stand- pat wages, according to the union. Joliette, Que., municipal workers reach agreement JOLIETTE, Que. — The 24 em- ployees of the Joliette Regional County Municipality (RCM) — which includes about 10 cities in Quebec's Lanaudière region rati- fied the second collective agree- ment in their history. The new agreement was signed on Dec. 14, after workers unani- mously ratified the agreement in November, said the Cana- dian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). Their new agreement includes wage increases of two per cent from Jan. 1, 2018, to Dec. 31, 2024. The deal also includes a group registered retirement savings plan for all regular employees, with a possible quick move over to the pension plan, said CUPE.
