PM #40065782 Labour Reporter Canadian www.labour-reporter.com March 11, 2019 Worker grieves as less-senior coworker wins lead-hand job EVEN THOUGH he was the most senior candidate when a lead-hand position was posted, a Harbour Grace, N.L. employee was not promoted. George Verge applied for the open position on May 2018, that was posted after the previous lead-hand resigned. While the former lead-hand considered whether or not to resign, John Mercer, supervisor, had placed Verge into the lead-hand slot on numerous occasions, as a Toronto seniors' home workers protest after switch to all-electronic pay slips WHEN A Toronto retirement community switched its payroll system so that employees could only access them online, it caused problems for many of them. Employees at the Bradgate Arms, located in central Toronto, were advised in the summer of 2017 by the employer, Revera, that it would soon stop issuing paper-copy pay slips. During the period between July 17 and August 14, workers were advised on numerous occasions that they must register with the proprietary My Self Service (MSS) system to access pay state- ments, benefit information, T4s and view their personal contact information. Most of the workers registered and in October, the company moved to all-electronic pay slips and it stopped issuing paper statements. On the Oct. 19 pay slip, employees saw a writ- ten message that said: "Effective Nov. 2, 2017, you will no longer receive a paper copy of your pay EDUCATION SAIT Calgary (954 instructors, librarians, educational counsellors) and the SAIT Academic Faculty Association (SAFA) Renewal agreement: Effective July 1, 2017, to June 30, 2020.
