By George Pearson AAU Editor Admins from across Canada will gather in Niagara-on-the-Lake May 29 through June 1 for the 67 th national conference of the Associa- tion of Administrative Professionals (AAP). During the four days, the asso- ciation will hold its annual general meeting, elect officers and board members, conduct a full-day pro- fessional development workshop, recognize graduates of its CCAP certification program and see to it that attendees have a range of social activities in southwestern Ontario's wine country. Attendees will come from the asso- ciation's branches in Toronto, Barrie/ Simcoe County, Calgary, Edmonton, Hamilton and Moncton, as well as a members-at-large contingent. "Ignite Your Administrative Pulse" is the theme for the conference, which will be held in the Prince of Wales Hotel. Co-hosting the event will be the Toronto Charter branch and Barrie/ Simcoe County branch. Workshop speakers include . . . • Carol Schulte: "Bring on the biggest you: Learn by strategies to speak up, stand up, stand out and make things happen" • Carol D. Rice: "Microsoft gems: 'The OOOs and AAHs" • Madison Moon: "Artificial intel - ligence: Automation and interpreta- tion with human maintenance" Carol Schulte is a speaker, trainer and founder of Liv- ing Big, which encourages people to inspire action and instigate change. She has lived, worked or volunteered in Thailand, India, Peru, Australia, New Zealand, United States, Germany and the UK. She is also a volunteer bereavement facilitator, marathon runner and yoga instructor. Carol D. Rice is owner and prin- cipal trainer of Essentials Computer Training. In addition to training, she has developed quick reference cards of mouse and keyboard shortcuts. She is certified as a Microsoft Office Specialist Master Instructor. Madison Moon is an infection con- trol practitioner at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network. He is editor of the upcoming Industry Innovations bi-annual publi- cation by IPAC Canada, a recognized resource for the promotion of best practice in infection prevention and control. At the annual general meeting AAP members will elect new national officers. About 54 per cent of women are not currently doing anything to protect their career from being im- pacted by technology. Nearly half of students (48 per cent), though, report specializing in an area that will help them adapt to technologi- cal advances. About 61 per cent of employed women and 66 per cent of women currently in school consider them- selves to be risk takers and innova- tors in their careers.
