www.hrreporter.com 39 LEADERSHIP SERIES Queen's University Industrial Relations Centre (IRC) has been exploring the importance of workplace trust for some time now. This year, they're redoubling their efforts, expanding their 'Building Trust in the Workplace' program for HR leaders and employers to a two-day from a one-day offering. According to the program's facilitator and the Queen's IRC team, the program will speak to the challenges and rewards of building meaningful trust and equip attendees with the skills to build and address questions of trust in their workplaces. "Trust is a key part of every program that the IRC offers," Queen's IRC director Stephanie Noel told HRDC. "From our labour relations programs to our human resources and our organizational development programs, trust, or lack of workplace TRUST IS THE double-edged sword of HR practice. Employee trust in an organization can pay untold dividends. Lack of trust has repercussions that can ripple out into productivity, employee retention and effective conflict resolution. Trust is hard to gain, easy to lose and difficult to grasp. HR leaders must take trust seriously and learn what employees mean when they say they trust you.
