"This agreement provides a sigh of relief to our members working in the airline industry," says Jerry Dias, Unifor national president. USW workers secure agreement at Forterra SAINT-EUSTACHE, Que. – United Steelworkers (USW) members at the Forterra water pipe manufacturing plant in Saint-Eustache, Que. ratified a collective agreement on March 2, negotiated in challenging circumstances. The new contract provides for wage increases of three per cent in the first year, and 2.75 per cent and 2.5 per cent in the second and third years, respec- tively, says the union. "The company is not at its strongest right now and we're very pleased with the increases given the circumstances," says Patrick Rousseau, president of USW, Local 6425. In addition to general wage increases, the contract in- cludes additional wage adjust- ments and improvements to the group RRSP and shift pre- miums, says USW. "There has been a modern- ization of the pay scale and clas- sifications have been merged, resulting in an additional wage increase for a portion of the workers," says Benoît Locas, USW north/northwest region coordinator.
