qualified in both painting and sandblasting skills) for paint- ers. $0.40 per hour (previous- ly $0.20 per hour) over painter senior rate for senior painters who have achieved 1 full year of service in classification. $1 per hour while acting in that capacity, for employee in charge of mobile repair unit. $1.20 per hour (previously $1.10 per hour) for afternoon shifts. $1.25 per hour (previ- ously $1.15 per hour) for night shifts. $0.60 per hour while actually welding on aluminum for welders qualified to work on aluminum. $0.40 per hour when employee is assigned to work in maintenance depart- ment for more than 10 con- tinuous working days. Paid holidays: 11 days, plus 1 additional holiday designated by employer. Vacations with pay: 2 weeks after 1 year, 3 weeks after 3 years, 4 weeks after 10 years, 5 weeks after 20 years. Overtime: Time and one-half for first 2 hours after regular day shift; double time thereaf- ter. Double time if hours paid at time and one-half exceed 8 hours in workweek. Double time for hours worked on Sunday or on seventh con- secutive day worked. Double time for all work after 8 hours per day for 10-hour shift workers. Meal allowance: $10 in lieu of lunch for employee who work for more than 2 hours beyond regular shift. Medical benefits: Employer will pay cost of required Al- berta health-care premiums for duration of collective agreement. Vision: $250 during any roll- ing 24 months, also includes laser eye surgery. Bereavement leave: 5 days for death of spouse, children. 3 days for death of brother, sister, mother, mother-in- law, father, father-in-law, grandchild, brother-in-law, sister-in-law. 2 additional days if travel greater than 300 kilometres (1-way) in order to attend funeral if needed. 1 day to attend funeral of grand- father, grandfather-in-law, grandmother, grandmother- in-law. Seniority – recall rights: 12 months for sickness, ac- cident, layoffs; 150 calendar days (in calendar year in that position) for employee who accepts position beyond scope of agreement. Call-in pay: Pay at applicable premium rate or minimum of 4 hours of pay at straight- time rate, whichever is greater amount. Probationary period: 90 work days or shifts. Discipline: Sunset clause is 18 months for record of any disciplinary actions; 24 months for safety infractions. Severance: Single 1-time payment of 2 week's pay for each full year of service, maxi- mum payment of 52 weeks, if employer ceases operating Edmonton service centre (will apply to those employees who have been on layoff 6 months prior to cessation of opera- tion). Safety shoes: $250 each year for safety boots, safety-boot repair for all eligible employ- ees (given in February of each year). Uniforms/clothing: Em- ployer will supply suitable winter clothing for regular switch crew, which will be replaced on exchange-basis as required. Winter work jackets will be provided to all employees. Mileage: $0.25 per kilometre, based on known kilometre distance from Edmonton repair location to worksite, if employee must report to Edmonton repair shop before travelling to another worksite using own vehicle. Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 4.3% in- crease): Chief engineer/air-brake mechanic/maintenance mechanic/A welder: $39.80 rising 2 steps to $41.51 Journeyman welder with 4-position 7018 test plate certification: $37.47 rising 2 steps to $39.08 CR 1/third-year apprentice/ A.B. repairman/liner ap- plicator/fourth-class steam engineer/senior Trackmobile operator/journeyman welder (no-test certification): $36.99 rising 2 steps to $38.58 CR 2/second-year apprentice/ Trackmobile operator/painter senior/stores man senior: $34.65 rising 2 steps to $36.14 CR 3/first-year apprentice/ sandblaster/switchman/ painter: $33.02 rising 2 steps to $34.44 Helper senior/stores man: $28.43 rising 2 steps to $29.65 Helper: $25.06 rising 2 steps to $26.14 Labourer/janitor: $23.16 ris- ing 2 steps to $24.15 Editor's notes: Union leave: 20 work days per year (without pay but with maintenance and accumulation of seniority) to employees to attend union-authorized educational courses, conventions and conferences. Prescription safety glasses: Employer will pay for approved prescription safety glasses for work use at company cost to those employees who require such glasses. Apprenticeship courses: Employer will pay lump-sum equal to $100, multiplied by number of weeks of train- ing (typically $600 or $800), to employees going off work to take approved apprenticeship course. Wage adjustments: Effective July 1, 2019: 1.7% Effective July 1, 2020: 3% Effective July 1, 2021: 3.2% Shift premium: $0.50 per hour for overnight shift (be- tween 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.). $0.50 per hour for special projects and lead-hand re- sponsibilities. $0.25 per hour on all hours worked where employer schedules 1-hour unpaid lunch break. Overtime: Time and one-half for all hours paid in excess of 44 in workweek; all hours worked on paid holiday. Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums ($0.85 per hour (previously $0.80 per hour)) into SEIU Local 1 & 2 Benefit Trust. Pension: Employer, employ- ees each contribute amount equal to 1% of employee's wages to multi-sector pension plan.
