Pepsico
workers ratify
agreement
CALGARY — Members of the
former Pepsico employees' asso-
ciation overwhelmingly ratified
their first agreement as Unifor
Local 1410 members.
The three-year deal includes
wage gains, improved rights
around scheduling and paid ed-
ucation leave, according to the
union.
"The bargaining committee
demonstrated strong leader-
ship and dedication throughout
these negotiations and secured
a strong deal despite uncertain
economic times in Alberta," said
Joie Warnock, Unifor western
director.
The vote saw the agreement
approved by 90 per cent of the
membership.
This is the first set of nego-
tiations since the former Pepsico
Beverages Employees' Associa-
tion merged with Unifor in April
2015, according to the union.
Unifor represents the 163
members at the Calgary facility
and nearly 10,000 other mem-
bers in the food and beverage
sector across Canada.
"We now have an agreement
with much stronger language
regarding health and safety, job
security and seniority rights that
we're all proud of," said Val Walk-
er, president of Unifor ocal 1410.
McGill staff
launch strike
MONTREAL — The Pub-
lic Service Alliance of Canada
and the Association of McGill
University Support Employees
(AMUSE) have ordered a five-
day strike.
"The employer is not taking us
seriously," said Claire Michela,
AMUSE president. "We have
no other choice but to launch a
strike this morning."
The AMUSE contract expired
on April 19, 2015, and there has
been little progress in negotia-
tions, according to the union.
After 20 meetings — half of
which were before a conciliator
— AMUSE members gave their
bargaining team a strike man-
date on Oct. 20.
Dominion
workers ratify
new labour
agreement
ST. JOHN'S — Unifor members
of Local 597 at Dominion stores
across Newfoundland and Lab-
rador have ratified a new three-
year collective agreement by an
84 per cent mandate.
The deal includes annual wage
increases for full-time and part-
time employees, benefit im-
provements and scheduling en-
hancements among other gains,
according to the union.
"This is a good deal for Do-
minion workers, and still among
the best for unionized retail
workers in the province," said
Keith Osborne, Unifor director
of retail.
Senior full-time and part-
time workers will receive a $1-
per -hour pay increase over the
life of the agreement and some
members will receive as much as
a seven per cent wage increase.
Junior part-time workers will
also receive negotiated pay in-
creases in each year of the agree-
ment, in addition to previously
negotiated pay hikes based on
seniority and hours worked, ac-
cording to Unifor.
The union also successfully
negotiated a women's advocate
position.
The new agreement will ex-
pire in April 2019.
