"The bargaining committee worked around the clock to se- cure fair compensation for the workers who make DHL suc- cessful," said Mario Santos, Uni- for national representative. Unifor's 900 members would have been in a legal strike posi- tion at 12:01 a.m. ET on Feb. 6, said the union. DHL's regional offices are lo- cated on or near airport proper- ties across Canada, which could have caused complications for some airports' operations. Unifor represents all DHL workers outside of Quebec working as express mail couri- ers and logistics administrators. Most DHL operations facilities are located at airports, including Vancouver, Hamilton, Edmon- ton and Calgary. Agreement for MEA,CUPE MONTREAL — The Maritime Employers Association (MEA) has concluded an agreement for nine years with the Cana- dian Union of Public Employ- ees (CUPE), Local 1375 which represents 103 longshoremen working at the Ports of Trois- Rivières and Bécancour. ''The coming into force of the new collective agreement will contribute to maintain healthy labour relations as well as a fa- vourable context for the eco- nomic development activities of both ports in the area in the years to come," said Stéphane Moren- cy, MEA president. The agreement includes more flexibility regarding working hours to better meet the expec- tations of these ports' clientele and to deal more effectively in an increase of tonnage. The agreement also provides a wage increase as well as a significant augmentation to the pension fund's contribution for all long- shoremen, said the union. The Maritime Employers As- sociation is a non-profit organi- zation representing ship owners, operators and agents of vessels, stevedoring contractors and ter- minal operators. The MEA has a mandate to act on behalf of its members in the negotiation and management of the collective agreements for more than 1,400 employees working in the Ports of Mon- treal, Trois-Rivières/Bécancour, Hamilton and Toronto. PSAC reaches agreement with Treasury Board OTTAWA — After four days of mediation, the Public Service Al- liance of Canada (PSAC) and the Treasury Board have reached a tentative agreement for the op- erational services group, which covers almost 10,000 federal public service workers. The deal includes the signifi- cant breakthroughs on sick leave and workforce adjustment that were negotiated by the common issues committee last December, according to the union. "Some progress was made to- wards achieving a key demand of equal pay with similar workers in the private sector and public sec- tors," said Robyn Benson, PSAC national president. The workers will receive eco- nomic wage increases of 1.25 per cent per year for four years. The union also achieved market and wage adjustments of between 0.5 per cent and 15 per cent.
