2 Canadian HR Reporter, a Thomson Reuters business 2017 Amos, Que., workers sign agreement AMOS, Que. — About 80 workers with the City of Amos of Quebec signed a collective agreement March 7. Their previous agreement had expired on Dec. 31, 2011, how- ever, the wage clause had been renewed for the years 2012 to 2015. The texts of the normative clauses were revised for the en- tire collective agreement, which explains the length of the nego- tiation period, said the union. The new collective agreement covers the years 2016 to 2023, according to the union, Cana- dian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). Employees get wage increases averaging 2.44 per cent for the years 2011 to 2019, with wage clauses to be negotiated for 2020 to 2023. At the normative level, there have been several gains, includ- ing: union leaves increased from 25 to 30 days a year; accumulated banked hours have also been in- creased; floating days may be taken in hours rather than by the day or half day; sick days can be taken in 30-minute increments and are payable at 100 per cent, said the union. Union members also got im- provements to social benefits, team leader bonuses and reten- tion bonuses, said CUPE. "The parties have agreed to meet to reach an agreement on adjustments to insurance pro- tections in order to reduce the cost, but overall we believe that it's a good agreement; 96 per cent of the union members voted in favour of this agreement," said Marjolaine Boutin, CUPE repre- sentative. With more than 110,000 members in Quebec, CUPE rep- resents about 70 per cent of the province's municipal employees, or 31,600 members. Long-term care workers join OPSEU KINGSTON, Ont. — Work- ers at the Waterford Retirement Residence in Kingston, Ont., voted March 10 in favour of join- ing the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU). OPSEU won over employees by pledging to work at improv- ing wages and benefits and to strengthen job security, accord- ing to the union. The group of 83 employees voted to join OPSEU by a margin of greater than 75 per cent. "Work in long-term care fa- cilities and retirement homes is getting tougher as more and more places are privatized," said Joan Corradetti, chair of OP- SEU's long-term care division. ONA ratifi es deal with CCAC LONDON, Ont. — Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) health professionals ratified a new agreement with the South West Community Care Access Centre on March 9. The 446 ONA members serve the counties of Bruce, Grey, Hu- ron, Perth, London-Middlesex, Oxford, Elgin and Norfolk in Ontario.
