2 Canadian HR Reporter, a Thomson Reuters business 2017 Students' Association workers ratify agreement WINNIPEG — Workers at the University of Winnipeg Stu- dents' Association, Local 153 ratified a new five-year collec- tive agreement April 11. Highlights include wage increases in each year of the agreement, as well as improve- ments to parental and family responsibility leave and dental benefits, said the union. The union will now meet with the employer to sign the contract for distribution to members. Workers at Vancouver's First United Church sign fi rst contract VANCOUVER — Workers at First United Church in Van- couver's Downtown Eastside ratified their first collective agreement April 11. In the first year of the con- tract, workers will receive wage increases ranging from three per cent to 11 per cent, with some classifications achieving greater than 30 per cent. All members will receive a subsequent 2.5 per cent wage hike on Aug. 1, 2017, followed by another two per cent in- crease on Aug. 1, 2018, said the union. "During bargaining, our higher-paid members were willing to forego a higher wage increase to ensure that their lesser-paid coworkers came up to $15 an hour or greater," said Kim Balmer, United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW) Local 1518 executive assistant. The new contract also fea- tures more full-time positions as well as enabling workers to move to higher-paid classifica- tions, according to UFCW. Workers at First United pro- vide advocacy, housing, meals, counselling services and pro- grams. The church provides support to those facing home- lessness, mental health and ad- diction issues. PSAC members ratify deals with Treasury Board OTTAWA — Members of the Public Service Alliance of Can- ada (PSAC) working for the Treasury Board accepted new collective agreements April 13 that contain no concessions for four bargaining units rep- resenting more than 100,000 workers. The majority of members in the program and administrative, technical services, operational services, and education and li- brary science bargaining units voted in favour of the agree- ments, said the union. The four-year collective agree- ments provide for across-the- board annual wage increases of 1.25 per cent for each year, plus other wage adjustments made for specific bargaining units and classifications, said PSAC. PSAC achieved: • The parties will develop rec- ommendations on measures to improve employee wellness. • Better family leave, including provisions for extended family, have also been negotiated.
