2 Canadian HR Reporter, a Thomson Reuters business 2017 Canadian Hearing Society, CUPE fi nalize deal TORONTO — The Canadian Hearing Society (CHS) said a new collective agreement was ratified May 12 by members of Canadian Union of Public Em- ployees (CUPE) 2073, the local representing the unionized em- ployees. "The organization's goal has always been to achieve a collec- tive agreement that meets the interests of both its employees and the organization for the long term, while continuing to pro- vide the much-needed services and programs for the clients it serves," said Julia Dumanian, CHS president and CEO. The agreement includes ret- roactive wage increases and a short-term disability program that provides all CHS employees with income protection in the event of an unforeseen injury or illness, said the CHS. Canadian Linen workers achieve wage, pension gains VAUGHAN, Ont. – United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW) Local 1006A members working at Canadian Linen and Uniform Service in Vaughan, Ont., achieved in- creases to wages, pensions and benefits in the latest contract signed May 6. The deal runs from Jan. 1, 2017, to Dec. 31, 2020, and cov- ers about 180 members. Highlights of the gains achieved include: • Wage increases of 1.5 per cent, 1.5 per cent, two per cent, and two per cent in each year of the agreement, and a $200 signing bonus on ratification. • Hours paid for statutory holidays will be included in overtime pay. • Seniority will continue to be accumulated for those away from work because of illness. • Eye care coverage increases from $150 to $200. • Increases to health and wel- fare benefits. • An increase in the employ- er contribution to the em- ployee pension plan. • The shoe allowance will in- crease from $125 to $150. CP, Teamsters reach tentative agreement LAVAL, Que. — Canadian Pacific (CP) and the Team- sters Canada Rail Conference Maintenance of Way Employ- ees Division (TCRC-MWED) reached a tentative five-year agreement May 12. "We have been working col- laboratively and proactively with the TCRC-MWED leader- ship on a deal that makes sense for both sides and provides sta- bility over the long-term," said Keith Creel, CP's president and CEO. "CP has worked hard, and will continue to work hard, to achieve long-term, innovative agreements with its unions that provide the framework for continued success for the com- pany and its valued employees," said Creel. Details of the agreement will be presented to the TCRC- MWED for ratification by the union's leadership. TCRC-MWED represents about 2,000 workers at CP rail.
