Board won't
meet deadline:
Union
OTTAWA — The federal Trea-
sury Board said that it will not
be meeting the implementation
deadline for the PA, SV, TC and
EB collective agreements, ac-
cording to the Public Service Al-
liance of Canada (PSAC).
More than 100,000 workers
are covered by these agreements.
PSAC will file a complaint with
the federal Public Service La-
bour Relations and Employment
Board.
"PSAC is seeking compen-
sation for our members," said
Robyn Benson, PSAC national
president.
"This government irrespon-
sibly moved forward with the
Phoenix rollout, despite our
warnings. Our members con-
tinue to suffer because of that
decision and it is unacceptable,"
said Benson.
In a meeting last week, Trea-
sury Board officials confirmed
that it would not meet the 150-
day implementation deadline
for all of the workers who will
be covered by the four collective
agreements.
These agreements — which
took more than two-and-a-half
years to negotiate — were signed
on June 14, 2017.
Acadia
University
faculty
vote to strike
WOLFVILLE, N.S. — Faculty
at Acadia University have given
their union, the Acadia Univer-
sity Faculty Association (AUFA),
a strong strike mandate as 81.1
per cent of voters authorized a
strike mandate at the Wolfville,
N.S., institution.
"This vote should send a clear
message to the board of gover-
nors at Acadia University," said
Stephen Ahern, AUFA presi-
dent.
Several substantial issues
remain on the table including
restoring full-time faculty po-
sitions, addressing pay equity,
achieving salaries in line with
regional averages and gaining
a commitment to fundraise for
a campus childcare centre, ac-
cording to AUFA.
The board has rejected faculty
proposals and is asking for sig-
nificant concessions, including
increasing class sizes for part-
time faculty while clawing back
their compensation, said the
union.
The union asked for the assis-
tance of a provincial conciliator
in early September.
Krown
Produce
workers agree
to contract
WINNIPEG — United Food
and Commercial Workers Cana-
da (UFCW), Local 832 members
working at Krown Produce in
Winnipeg unanimously voted in
favour of a new four-year collec-
tive agreement on Oct. 24.
At the date of signing, each
member received a $350 signing
bonus as well as a two per cent
increase to their wages. Addi-
tional two per cent increases on
wages are scheduled in each of
the following three years of the
new deal, said the union.
The union committee was
also successful in doubling the
amount of sick days to 32 hours,
up from 16 hours. The new con-
tract also features increases to
the boot allowance for members
working in shipping and receiv-
ing, according to UFCW.
