2 Canadian HR Reporter, a HAB Press business 2019 Deal signed at Cancoil ermal KINGSTON, Ont. — A new collective agreement for 100 employees of Cancoil Thermal in Kingston, Ont. was ratified on Aug. 11. The workers are represented by United Food and Commer- cial Workers union (UFCW) Canada, Local 175. The new deal incudes a new shipper/receiver position to en- sure work continues to be done by bargaining-unit members, the union bulletin board will be relocated to a more visible posi- tion which will help members stay informed and the contract also includes provisions for a union office to be created in the plant by Oct. 31, says the union. In terms of wages, produc- tion employees at Cancoil will receive an initial raise of 2.15 per cent (which will apply retro- actively for hours worked since April 3). After the first year, raises for employees in this classification will be 2.15 per cent in year two, 2.2 per cent in year three and an- other 2.25 per cent in year four. Maintenance employees will re- ceive an initial wage adjustment of $2 per hour, retroactive for hours worked since April 3, as well. Following this, employees classified as maintenance will get increases of two per cent in years two, three, and four, says UFCW. All employees will receive a raise of three per cent in the fifth year of the contract. In ad- dition, shift premiums go up to $0.65 per hour immediately. The contract includes improved lan- guage regarding banked over- time as well, says the union. Vision coverage improves to provide $180 per 24-month pe- riod for non-safety glasses. The plan will now cover up to $125 every 24 months for safety glass- es. The employees at Cancoil will also benefit from increased con- tributions, up by $0.03 per hour, to the group RRSP, says UFCW. Other monetary improve- ments include a better boot al- lowance of $90 per year and an increased clothing allowance of $95 per year, says the union. Bruce Power workers reach tentative deal TIVERTON, Ont. — The Soci- ety of United Professionals and Bruce Power reached a tentative collective agreement on Aug. 12 for 1,200 workers. "Our bargaining team is proud of this win-win agreement that addresses our members' priori- ties and enables Bruce Power to be a global leader in clean, afford- able energy that powers a strong Ontario," says Mike Gade, Bruce Power Local vice-president of the Society of United Profes- sionals who led the union's bar- gaining efforts. The union's Bruce Power Lo- cal will hold ratification meet- ings with its members over the coming weeks to detail the con- tents of the tentative agreement. The ratification vote is expected to take place in late August, says the union. Collective bargaining began in November 2018 and lasted 10 months, says the union. In June, union members gave the bargaining committee a strike mandate in the event that an agreement could not be reached. The union also filed for conciliation in June and the Ministry of Labour-appointed conciliator worked with the par- ties throughout the remainder of negotiations, says the union. Casino Woodbine contract ratified TORONTO — Certain depart- ments at Casino Woodbine in Toronto — which are represent- ed by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) — voted in favour of ratifying a new collec- tive agreement on Aug. 16 for a four-year term. "Completing this four-year deal with PSAC is another build- ing block as we continue our significant development plan to transform Casino Woodbine into a world-class entertainment des- tination," says Geno Iafrate, gen- eral manager, Casino Woodbine.
