We think it's important to share our members' HR stories – how they ended up in HR, why they ended up here, and what they're doing in the community. CPHR Alberta Member Moment: Ayo's HR Story By Hayley Antonissen Our first HR story starts with Ayo – Ayo is a Human Resources Advisor at Civeo North America, a global workforce accommodation specialist that helps people maintain healthy, productive and connected lives while living and working remotely. Ayo's HR journey started in his second year of college when he took a Human Resources Management course. He was fascinated to learn how employee interactions impact HR is never black and white, and having so many grey areas is the fun of it. " " organizations – this sparked his drive to begin a career in HR. After graduation, Ayo got a job as an HR Generalist in a consulting firm, which exposed him to the diverse functions of HR. After four years in this role, he moved to the financial services industry, where he worked as an HR Business Partner for over five years. This role helped Ayo understand business models and the impact HR plays in achieving business goals and objectives. In 2018 Ayo relocated to Canada from Nigeria. Despite having to start in a junior level position again, his passion for HR encouraged him to stay in the profession. Ayo's first goal after arriving in Canada was to get the CPHR designation so he felt confident embarking his HR journey in a new country. Attending CPHR Alberta events and participating in the Mentorship Program has made a significant impact on Ayo's HR career in Canada because he's been able to connect with valuable HR contacts from various industries. Something Ayo enjoys about his profession is that every day he steps into his office, there are new solutions he needs to reach through creative and critical thinking. As Ayo explained when we chatted, "HR is never black and white, and having so many grey areas is the fun of it." Finding solutions to challenges like this helps us grow as professionals and as individuals. Ayo told us that coming to Canada was one of the best decisions he's made in his life, and even with many years of experience in HR, there's still a lot to "learn, relearn, and unlearn." We admire Ayo's perspective on HR leadership because great leaders never stop learning. CPHRs have the education, skills, and experience to help organizations grow and succeed. They are committed to the highest standards of professional practice in HR in Canada. Congratulations, Ayo on your successful HR journey – we look forward to helping you during the rest of your career.
