The two parties met with a provincially appointed mediator and finalized the tentative agree- ment, says the union. Sunwing pilots ratify agreement TORONTO — Pilots represent- ed by Unifor, Local 7378 ratified a new four -year agreement on Feb. 12 with Sunwing Airlines. "In the most unprecedented of times while the entire aviation industry in Canada has been shuttered, our pilots came to- gether and this agreement pro- vides a road forward and a plan for all of our members who are suffering financially," says Bar- ret Armann, president of Unifor, Local 7378. The four-year agreement includes wage increases, im- provements to benefits and new language to improve working conditions, says the union. Unifor, Local 7378 represents 451 pilots who have been fur- loughed or inactive for many months due to the pandemic and government travel restrictions. BCGEU, Protrans BC sign deal RICHMOND , B.C. — A major- ity of 180 Canada Line workers represented by the B.C. Govern- ment and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU) voted on Feb. 14 in favour of ratifying their collective agreement with their employer, Protrans BC Opera- tions of Richmond , B.C., after reaching a tentative agreement on Feb. 2. The agreement was ratified after 13 months without a con- tract and included more than 40 bargaining sessions, says the union. The four-year agreement term runs until Dec. 31, 2023, and it includes wage and sick leave improvements as well as an increase in benefits coverage, says BCGEU. Strategic Aviation workers join IAM OTTAWA — The Canada In- dustrial Labour Board (CIRB) granted the International Asso- ciation of Machinists and Aero- space Workers (IAM) certifica- tion for 33 workers at Strategic Aviation in Ottawa on Feb. 16. The campaign began on Nov. 9 after WestJet released the list of companies it awarded its above- and below-the-wing services at 34 airports across Canada. It included Strategic Aviation, says the union. Within a week, communica- tions began and the IAM began holding virtual information ses- sions. The union also conducted door-to-door card-signing after filing an application with the CIRB on Nov. 18. "Our next and final step is to negotiate and ratify an agree- ment as we move through this pandemic," says Michael Corra- do, IAM Transportation District Lodge 140 General Chairperson. Ottawa guards, UFCW ratify new deal RICHMOND HILL, Ont. – United Food and Commercial Workers union (UFCW), Local 333 members working at the Corps of Commissionaires in Ottawa accepted their first col- lective agreement on Feb. 17. The new three-year contract includes company-paid health and welfare benefits, paid be- reavement leave, paid safety shoes, paid sick leave and in- creased vacation entitlement: employees with five and 10 years of seniority will get three and four weeks, respectively, in the new deal, says the union. In addition to the health and welfare improvements, the se- curity guards will receive wage increases of between $1.27 and $2.44 per hour with Consumer Price Index (CPI) increases each subsequent year, says UFCW.
