More than eight out of 10 U.S. employees work while they're on vacation. In addition, nearly nine in 10 check work messages and emails while on holiday, found a survey of 1,012 people by MyPerfectResume. Two-thirds of respondents say that their boss has contacted them to do work while on vacation, and of those, almost all of them (94 per cent) completed the work. It's not just during vacation time that employees are tempted or feeling pressure to do work. Three- quarters of respondents say they have worked while on parental leave and 40 per cent have worked on sick leave. In fact, 42 per cent take vacation days to specifically do work. For most of the respondents, working on vacation is common — more than four out of 10 have done it two to three times, three in 10 four to five times, and 14 per cent eight times or more. More than one in four people say that doing work while on vacation has added stress. However, 20 per cent say that they do it because "I just love my job." Nearly seven out of 10 people without a job are unemployed directly because of the COVID-19 pandemic, a survey has found. This apparently isn't due to a lack of effort, as the same number say they are actively and consistently searching for work, according to the FlexJobs survey of 1,800 unemployed workers in the U.S. More than four in 10 have been out of work for more than one year. Ongoing unemployment has forced many to expand their job search, as 47 per cent say they have expanded their search outside their current field and Changing jobs for work-life balance Better work-life balance Better compensation To try something new PANDEMIC JOB SEARCH TIRING FOR MANY One out of five U.S. workers switched to an entirely different career over the past year, with half of them saying the changes are permanent. WORKERS CAN'T LEAVE WORK BEHIND 40 per cent have applied to jobs for which they're overqualified — while 56 per cent are thinking about it. More than eight out of 10 are willing to take a pay cut just to get hired by somebody — with 12 per cent of that group open to taking a cut of more than 20 per cent. Nearly half of respondents (48 per cent) who are actively looking for work say they are frustrated because they aren't finding the right jobs to apply for.
