4 Canadian HR Reporter, a Thomson Reuters business 2016 COLLECTIVE AGREEMENTS February 15, 2016 COLLECTIVE AGREEMENTS EDUCATION Dalhousie University Halifax (280 maintenance employees) and the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU) Local 99 Renewal agreement: Effective July 1, 2014, to June 30, 2017. Signed on Nov. 23, 2015. Wage adjustments: Effective July 1, 2014: 2% Effective July 1, 2015: 1.75% Effective July 1, 2016: 1.5% Shift premium: $1.50 per hour for all hours worked between 4 p.m. and 8 a.m. $1.50 per hour for all hours worked between 12:01 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Monday. $2 per hour for gen- eral foreperson. $1 per hour for working foreperson. $1.50 per hour for acting security super- visor. Paid holidays: 12 days. Vacations with pay: 4% of straight-time earnings in lieu of vacation for term employees. 1.25 days per month of ser- vice after 1 year, 1.67 days per month of service after 10 years, 2.08 days per month of service after 20 years and 2.25 days per month of service after 25 years. Overtime: Time and one-half. Double time for overtime hours worked between 12 a.m. and 8 a.m. Meal allowance: $8 when employee is required to work more than 2 hours of overtime or when an employee receives a call back for more than 4 hours. Medical benefits: Employer pays 60% of premiums for the Voluntary Major Medical In- surance Plan. Dental: Employer pays 50% of premiums for the Dental Insur- ance Plan. Sick leave: 10 hours of paid sick leave per month of full-time compensated service to a maxi- mum of 1,600 hours. Abuse of sick leave will be grounds for disciplinary action up to and including discharge. Bereavement leave: 5 days for employee's spouse, child or par- ent. 3 days for employee's sib- ling, grandparent, grandchild, parent-in-law or stepchild. 1 day for employee's son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law or sister-in-law. Seniority – recall rights: 1 year. Call-in pay: Minimum 4 hours at time and one-half. Probationary period: 1,040 hours worked to a maximum of 1 year. Discipline: Sunset clause is 1 year. Safety shoes: 1 pair of boots every 2 years. (16 employees) and the Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC) Construction Workers Union Local 52 Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2015, to Dec. 31, 2018. Ratified on Jan. 6, 2016. Wage adjustments: Effective Jan. 1, 2017: 1.5% Effective Jan. 1, 2018: 1.5% Calculated by CLR Shift premium: $1.50 per hour when shift begins at 3:30 p.m., or later. Paid holidays: 10 days. Time and one-half for all hours worked on a named holiday. A paid holiday shall be considered hours worked, for overtime cal- culating purposes. Overtime: Time and one-half for all hours worked beyond 40 in 1 week or 10 in 1 day. Double time for all hours worked on a Sunday. Life insurance: $25,000. Seniority – recall rights: 26 months. Call-in pay: Minimum 1 hour's pay. Safety shoes: Up to $100 every 10 months. Employees must have completed at least 1 year of service. Uniforms/clothing: Employ- ees required to wear safety hats and boots, and hand, ear and eye protection when required. Protective clothing furnished at own expense except where required by Employment Stan- dards Act or company policy. Tool allowance: Tradesmen to supply tools common to own trade, employer to provide power tools. The probationary period ranges from 1,040 hours worked up to a maximum of 1 year of service. Double time for any shifts falling on a Sunday.
