3 Canadian HR Reporter, a Thomson Reuters business 2016 CANADIAN LABOUR REPORTER COLLECTIVE AGREEMENTS < from pg. 1 for second shift (commencing any time between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m.) and $1.50 for third shift (commencing any time between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.) for com- mercial work. $3 per hour for the second and third shift (in- creasing to $3.50 effective May 17, 2017) for industrial work. $5.50 per hour for journeyman on industrial work and $4 per hour for commercial work. $1 per hour ($1.50 effective May 7, 2017) if that person has achieved Industrial Construc- tion Crew Supervisor designa- tion from Alberta Apprentice- ship and Industry Training. Paid holidays: 11 days. Vacations with pay: 6% of their straight time hourly rate for all hours worked for vacation pay and 4% of their straight time hourly rate for all hours worked for recognized holiday pay for commercial work. 6% of their applicable base rate for vacation pay and 4% of their applicable base rate for recognized holiday pay for industrial work. They receive vacation pay on each paycheque. Overtime: Commercial/ institutional work: Time and one-half for all hours worked beyond 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week. Double time for holidays worked. Time and one-half if an employee is required to return to work without at least an 8-hour break between shifts. Industrial work: Time and one-half for the first 2 hours of overtime worked on a week day, double time for hours worked beyond that. If working a compressed work week (10 days on, 4 days off ), time and one-half applies to the first 10 hours worked on the Friday. Double time if employee does not have at least 8 hours between shifts. Meal allowance: Commercial/ institutional work: 1 hot meal after 11 hours of work and ev- ery 4 hours after that. Industrial work: 1 hot full-course meal when working overtime in excess of 10 hours and every 4 hours after that. If no hot meal provided, the employee will receive a half-hour of pay at the rate of time and one-half. Medical benefits: Employees pay into a jointly administered Health and Welfare Fund, the Asbestos Workers Insurance Benefit Trust Fund, 9335. Vision: Employees must come to work with prescription safety glasses, if needed. Pension: Employees pay into the Asbestos Workers' Pension Plan of Alberta, 9335. $2 per hour deducted for journeymen employed on industrial work, going to the Insulators Supple- mentary Pension Trust Fund. Call-in pay: 2 hours at the applicable rate of pay if an em- ployee reports to work and is not put to work. Safety shoes: Employees must report for work equipped with safety boots. Uniforms/clothing: The em- ployer will supply all necessary safety equipment including approved respirators and/or face masks. Employer will also provide all necessary protec- tive clothing or equipment. Employer will provide coveralls, work gloves, and rubber boots to employees working on spray- ing. Employer will provide rub- ber or polythene gloves, hand cleaners, and brushes to em- ployees working with foamglass and all types of mastics. Tool allowance: Employer will provide required optional tools. When working with stainless steel cladding, foamglass, and all types of mastics, employer may provide metal cutting tools or replace employee's tools ru- ined on materials. Mileage: 52¢ per km. For re- mote sites: $88 each way up to 200 km, $124 each way over 201 km, $150 each way over 301 km, $224 each way over 375 km or airfare, $344 maximum over 475 km or airfare. Sample rates of pay, current: Commercial/institutional Foreman: $35.93 per hour Journeyman: $31.93 Third-year apprentice: $25.54 Second-year apprentice: $20.75 First-year apprentice: $15.97 Helper: $15.97 Industrial Foreman: $48.18 Journeyman: $42.68 Third-year apprentice: $34.14 Second-year apprentice: $27.74 First-year apprentice: $21.34 Helper: $21.34 Editor's notes: Turnarounds: $168 after 35 days of employment on jobs beyond a 300 km radius from the centre of Edmonton or Calgary, or other hiring hall location, up to a maximum of 475 km. $168 for every 35 days of employ- ment following return from turnaround. 5 days off after 35 days on the job and every 35 days following return from turnaround. $300 or negotiated transportation allowance not more than airfare after 35 days on a job located beyond a 475 km radius, and every 35 days after return from turnaround. Accommodation: Camp accommodation, mutually agreed upon room and board, or $110 per day towards board and lodging for out-of-town job within a 475 km radius of the Centre of Edmonton or Calgary or any location with a hiring hall.
