Salary range: New employees can be hired at any step between 80- 95% of the salary range for the position, or hired above the 95% step provided agreement is reached with the union. Special consideration: Bereavement leave for anyone not in the employee's immediate family will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Jury duty: Regular rate of pay for full-time employees who receive a jury summons, less any amount received from the court for jury selection or attending or sitting on a jury. Examination leave: Paid time off to write exams directly related to their employment and scheduled during working hours. 1 unpaid day for studying may also be taken. Maternity/parental leave: In keeping with eligibility requirements and entitlement provisions of British Columbia's Employment Standards Act. Leave of absence: An unpaid leave of up to 1 year can be taken for suf- ficient reasons, with the written request submitted at least 1 month prior to the leave beginning. Family responsibility leave: 5 days unpaid per year to meet responsibilities related to the care, health, or education of a child in their care or the care or health of any spouse, parent, guardian, sibling, grandchild, grandparent or person who lives with the employee as a member of their family. Special leave: 1 day per year for family medical emergencies. Religious obser- vances: 1 unpaid day per year to observe a recognized religion's spiritual or holy day. 30 days' notice is required. Com- passionate care leave: Up to 8 weeks without pay for care or support of a gravely ill family member at risk of dying within 26 weeks. First aid: $25 per month for employees designated to hold a valid Level 1 First Aid Certificate. The union pays course fees for staff designated for first aid training. EDUCATION Dalhousie University Halifax (810 support employees) and the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU) Local 77 Renewal agreement: Effective July 1, 2014, to June 30, 2017. Signed on Sept. 25, 2015. Wage adjustments: Effective July 1, 2014: 2% Effective July 1, 2015: 1.75% Effective July 1, 2016: 1.5% Shift premium: $1.50 per hour for shifts worked between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. $1.50 per hour for all hours worked between 12:01 a.m. on Saturday and 7 a.m. on Monday. Paid holidays: 12 days. Vacations with pay: 1 1/4 days per month worked to start, 3 weeks after 1 year, 4 weeks after 10 years and 5 weeks after 20 years. Meal allowance: $7 after 3 hours of overtime. Sick leave: Full salary employ- ees will be paid for the first 125 working days of sick leave in any 1-year period. Bereavement leave: 5 days for employee's parent, spouse, child, stepchild, ward, grand- child or relative living perma- nently with the employee. 3 days for employee's parent- in-law, grandparent, sibling, stepsibling, half-sibling, sibling- in-law, son-in-law, daughter- in-law or stepparent. 1 day for employee's uncle, aunt, nephew, niece, sibling-in-law, foster par- ent or spouse's grandparent. Additional 2 days for travel if service takes place more than 200km away from employee's residence. Seniority – recall rights: 1 year. Call-in pay: Minimum 4 hours at regular rate of pay. Minimum 4 hours at double time when employee is called in on a day off. Probationary period: 6 months. Discipline: Sunset clause is 1 year. 5 years for discipline relating to serious wilful mis- conduct, serious disobedience or neglect of duty. Discipline relating to sexual harassment, assault — including sexual as- sault — or theft is not covered by this article.
