Calgary Pepsico workers ratify fi rst contract CALGARY — Members of the former Pepsico Employees' As- sociation ratified their first con- tract as Unifor Local 1410, ac- cording to the union. "We have an agreement that we're all proud of, with wage gains and much stronger lan- guage regarding health and safety, job security and seniority rights," said Val Walker, presi- dent of Unifor Local 1410. This is the first set of nego- tiations since the former Pepsico Beverages Employees' Associa- tion merged with Unifor in April 2015. The local represents 163 workers at the Calgary facility. NSTU agrees to return to bargaining HALIFAX — The Nova Scotia Teachers Union (NTSU) has agreed to go back to bargaining for 9,300 public school teachers in the province. "We tried through requesting a conciliation board and through requesting the appointment of a mediator," said Liette Doucet, NSTU president. "It seems gov- ernment is finally willing to get back to the table." The NSTU was contacted by conciliation officer Jarrod Ba- boushkin after the education minister's negotiating team re- quested he bring the two nego- tiating teams together again, ac- cording to the union. The conciliation process will not affect the current situation with respect to NSTU's impend- ing job action, said the union. NSTU public school members gave its union a strike mandate on Oct. 25, voting 96 per cent in favour of job action. Teachers will be in a legal strike position on Dec. 3. Agreement ratifi ed with Windsor-Essex school board WINDSOR, Ont. — Unifor support workers at the Windsor- Essex Catholic District School Board (WECDSB ) have rati- fied a new collective agreement, bringing a five-week work stop- page to an end. "Our members are pleased to be returning on Monday to resume frontline work to aid students and provide a safe and healthy school environment," said Bruce Dickie, Unifor Local 2458 president. The contract contains wage increases of 1.5 per cent in 2016, 2017 and 2018, along with a lump sum payment upon ratification to match wages given to other public sector school boards be- tween 2014 and 2016 The agreement will also rein- state and offer retiree benefits to seniority members and pre- viously retired members, those not eligible for retiree benefits will receive cash payments rang- ing from $1,000 to $35,000 based on years of service. Additionally, the union has secured language to guarantee that no layoffs will occur over the life of the contract which expires on August 31, 2019, said the union. Unifor Local 2458 represents 370 members in two bargaining units at WECDSB consisting of office, and clerical workers and technicians, and custodians and maintenance staff.
