ratify contract
SURREY, B.C. — UFCW Can-
ada Local 1518 members at J &
L Beef in Surrey, B.C., have rati-
fied a new five-year collective
agreement that includes wage
increases and an employer-paid
pension plan, according to the
union.
Over the duration of the con-
tract, members being paid at
the top rate of every job in each
classification will receive a 2.3
per cent wage increase in each
year, while members on the
wage scales below will receive a
two per cent increase annually.
All members will receive ret-
roactive pay in terms of wage
increases to Sept. 1, 2014, ac-
cording to the union.
The new collective agree-
ment also includes the addi-
tion of a pension plan. Effective
March 1, 2017, members will
join the UFCW Canada Indus-
try Pension Plan, which will be
fully funded by the employer,
said the union.
The contract also features
improved language regard-
ing overtime work, including
a 30-minute paid lunch after
three hours of overtime work,
which will be paid at double
time, according to UFCW.
Molson Coors
workers
approve deal
TORONTO — Molson Co-
ors and Canadian Union of
Brewery and General Workers
(CUBGW), Local 325 have a
new agreement after the union
membership ratified a four-year
contract on Feb. 26, according to
the union.
The new agreement covers
320 employees at the company's
Etobicoke, Ont., facility.
"While this was a challeng-
ing round of negotiations, this
new contract positions Molson
to be more efficient and flex-
ible while also remaining fair to
our employees and their needs,"
said Amy Michtich, chief supply
chain officer at Molson Coors
Canada.
"This new 4-year agreement
contract continues to provide
our hourly employees with a
comprehensive compensation
and benefits package that we are
very proud of and one our mem-
bers value," said Rob Folk, presi-
dent of CUBGW, Local 325.
The workers walked off the
job Jan. 12.
Unifor
Bell Craft
members sign
agreement
TORONTO — Unifor members
at Bell Craft in Ontario and Que-
bec ratified a new four-year col-
lective agreement Feb. 23.
"I'm glad that we were able to
bring Bell back to the table to ne-
gotiate a fair contract," said Jerry
Dias, Unifor national president.
Unifor represents more than
3,800 Bell Craft technicians cov-
ered under the agreement that
will expire on Nov. 30, 2020.
The new contract was reached
following months of bargaining,
which involved the personal in-
tervention of Dias with senior
management, said the union.
Wages will improve by 1.75
per cent retroactive to Dec. 1,
2016, and then by 1.75 per cent,
two per cent and two per cent in
the following years, according to
Unifor.
Bell agreed to contribute to
the Unifor Paid Education Leave
Program, said the union.
