On Sept. 23, 2016, Serco Can- ada was awarded a new contract, but operations were scaled back due to a lower rate of activity around the base. Twenty-nine employees were permanently laid off, while others were reclassified. But in October, Dezainde advised Kim Roberts, director of nursing, that she had insufficient funds to continue her schooling and she wished to re- turn to Rocmaura. A meeting was held on Oct. 26, but many "men- tal-health issues" were brought up by Dezainde, according to Roberts, which made her later ques- tion if Dezainde was ready to return.
