Calgary nurse terminated after falling asleep on duty DURING a night shift, a nurse in a senior's care centre was seen sleeping by a supervisor who un- expectedly showed up. The nurse (who was not identi- fied) worked as a licensed practi- cal nurse (LPN) at Clifton Manor in Calgary since 2013, and was sta- tioned in the KINDD (Kindness, Independence and Nurturing for Developmentally Disabled) unit which catered to seniors and oth- ers who suffered from dementia or a developmental disability. The unit housed patients in a locked unit and extra care was Saskatoon transit union files grievance over pay for attending meetings AFTER a third party took over management of Saskatoon's transit division, union members stopped being paid for attending meetings, lead- ing to a grievance. The disability assistance program (DAP) was created in 2002 to help manage illnesses or injur- ies and their effect on the workforce. It was man- aged internally by occupational health consult- ants (OHCs) who were employed by the city. But in March 2016, Bridges Health Services was contracted to manage the service. Employees no longer met with OHC workers, they met with staff at Bridges. Under the collective agreement, "an employ- ee summoned for an investigative or disciplinary interview shall have the right, if he so requests, to be accompanied by a union representative." When union representatives attended certain meetings in the past, they were paid for their time by the employer, the City of Saskatoon.
