November 25, 2019 Canadian HR Reporter, a HAB Press business 2019 COLLECTIVE AGREEMENTS 6 BUS TRANSPORTATION First Canada Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, Alta. (275 drivers, mechanics) and the International Union of Operating Engineers, (IUOE) Local 955 Renewal agreement: Effective Aug. 1, 2018 to July 31, 2021. Signed on Oct. 17, 2019. Shift premium: $4 per hour for all hours worked on hours- of-work-averaging agreement for maintenance employees (all maintenance employees hired following ratification will not be entitled to premium). $1.50 per hour to all employees designated as lead-hand. Paid holidays: 11 days. Vacations with pay: 2 weeks or 4% to start, 3 weeks or 6% after 3 years, 4 weeks or 8% after 5 years, 5 weeks or 10% after 8 years. Overtime: Time and one-half for all work after 50 hours per week averaged over employee's respective cycle. Time and one- half for all work on designated day off, minimum 8 hours. Medical benefits: Employer will contribute $1.80 for each hour (previously $1.75 per hour) worked to Operating Engineers' Health and Wellness Trust Fund. Effective Aug. 1, 2020: $1.85 per hour. Sick leave: 0.5 day per month, maximum 6 days per year. Days may be used in half-day incre- ments and will be paid out at 65% of employee's average daily wage. Unused days may be carried over year to year, max- imum 6 days total accumulated. Pension: Employer will con- tribute $3.75 for each hour worked (previously $3.50 per hour) to Operating Engineers' Pension Plan. Bereavement leave: 3 days for death in immediate family (mother, father, spouse, common-law spouse, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandchildren or equivalent in-laws, any person who has acted in loco parentis, any other relatives living under same roof as employee); time will be increased to 4 days for destinations east of Manitoba. Leave without pay may be given to attend funeral of individual with whom special relationship has existed. Seniority – recall rights: 12 consecutive months. Call-in pay: Minimum 2 hours' pay. Probationary period: 90 cal- endar days. Discipline: Sunset clause is 24 months. Safety shoes: $150 reimburse- ment (previously $125) if work boots are required at work site (not apply to cost of resole or heeling). $400 per year (previ- ously $250 per year) for all em- ployees in maintenance clas- sifications (utility, apprentices, mechanics) to cover cost of 1 pair of summer boots; 1 pair of winter boots; 1 pair of rub- ber boots every 2 years. Uniforms/clothing: Uniforms and clothing will be furnished by employer — and will be maintained by employee — when employee is required to wear any kind of uniform or specialized clothing, as condi- tion of employment. On any site that requires any type of personal-protective equip- ment, it will be provided by employer as needed. Regular and quilted coveralls; win- ter jackets will be supplied to maintenance employees. Employer will provide 1 set of insulated gloves, insulated coveralls, rubber boots for ser- viceperson. Tool allowance: $1,000 per year (previously $600 per year) for each mechanic, apprentice mechanic. Sample rates of hourly pay (current): Base rates Coach operator: $34.95 Shuttle-bus operator: $31.80 Site-utility person: $27.93 Site-utility person (heavy- equipment operator): $29.99 Journeyman mechanic: $50.41 Apprentice mechanic: (% of journeyman-mechanic rate in accordance with provincial- apprenticeship guidelines) Editor's notes: Contractor permit fees: Employer will forward $90 per month to union for any equipment engaged in sub-contracting capacity, for any period beyond 6 working days in 1 month. Mandatory company meetings/non- driving duties: Employees having to attend mandatory company meetings, or performing non-driving duties, will be paid at applicable hourly rate for all time spent at such meetings or duties. CONSTRUCTION Saint John Construction Association Provincewide, New Brunswick (300 construction workers) and the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), Local 946 Renewal agreement: Effective Feb. 5, 2018 to Dec. 31, 2020. Signed on Feb. 5, 2018. Shift premium: 15% for all work on second, third shift when shift work is required. 15% when tide work is required (starting time for tidal work will not be any earlier than 6 a.m. or later than 11 a.m.). $0.60 per hour above heavy-duty equipment mechan- ics rate for working foreman me- chanics. $1 per hour when union supplies master mechanic. $1.50 per hour above group A rate for foreman on sites where em- ployer has 5 or more operators (excluding apprentices, front- end drivers) covered by article 26 of agreement, and employer must employ working foreman who is member of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 946. $0.75 per hour for employees working on water from scows, barges. Crane oper- ators: $0.35 per hour from 100 to 150 foot of boom and jib; $0.50 per hour for 151 to 199 foot of boom and jib; $0.70 per hour, and $0.01 per foot thereafter, for 200 foot of boom and jib. $0.80 per hour for operators of tower cranes when operating from mast or boom. $0.25 per hour when engineer is responsible for supply air on projects where employees are working under air pressure. $0.25 per hour more than group #2 for air compres- sors feeding low pressure into air lock. $1 per hour for employees who work underground. Paid holidays: 10 days. Vacations with pay: 2 weeks to start. Employer will pay 10% of gross earnings as vacation pay. Overtime: Time and one-half for all work after regularly scheduled hours. Double time for all work on Sundays and holidays. Medical benefits: Employer pays $5.98 for each hour worked (previously $5.93 for each hour worked) into New Brunswick Operating Engi- neers International Union Health and Pension Trust Fund. Effective Jan. 1, 2020: $6.03 for each hour worked. Pension: Employer pays $5.98 for each hour worked (previ- ously $5.93 for each hour worked) into New Brunswick Operating Engineers Inter- national Union Health and Pension Trust Fund. Effective Jan. 1, 2020: $6.03 for each hour worked. Call-in pay: Minimum 4 hours' at overtime rates. Uniforms/clothing: Any employee, as condition of em- ployment, will own protective footwear and clothing required
