2 Canadian HR Reporter, a HAB Press business 2019 E-Comm, CUPE agree to interest arbitration VANCOUVER — E-Comm and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 873 — the union that represents E- Comm's 533 employees in Brit- ish Columbia — both agreed on Nov. 22 to proceed to interest arbitration to settle their collec- tive agreement, which expired on Dec. 31, 2018. The parties have been en- gaged in collective bargaining and mediation at the Labour Re- lations Board (LRB) since March 2019, says the union. Due to the nature of the public safety services, E-Comm and its employees negotiated essential services levels to limit any im- pacts in the event of labour dis- ruption, says CUPE. Interest arbitration will result in a binding collective agree- ment, says the union. Transcare workers in Hamilton join union HAMILTON — Employees of Transcare Logistics, a Hamilton subsidiary of CP Rail, joined the United Steelworkers (USW) union on Nov. 21. Transcare employees voted to join the USW in a secret-ballot vote supervised by the Ontario Ministry of Labour, says the union. "We will support these work- ers as they move forward and negotiate a collective agreement that recognizes their vital con- tributions to the success of their employer," says Marty Warren, USW district 6 director. Transcare Logistics employ- ees mobilized to join the USW to address a variety of issues in- cluding workplace health and safety concerns. Next steps for the new union members will include electing a negotiating committee and preparing pro- posals for collective bargaining, says USW. New deal for Diamond International employees EDMONTON — About 30 members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), Local 1722 ratified a new collec- tive agreement with Diamond International Trucks in Edmon- ton on Nov. 21. "The employer sought reduc- tions to paid days off and a short- term contract of one year with wage freezes," says Matthew Barnable, business representa- tive for IAM district 14. "The bargaining unit was able to keep the paid days off, as well as some monetary increases over a three- year deal." The members consist of clerks, parts and warehouse personnel and heavy-duty technicians. Diamond International Trucks sells, rents and services new and used international brand trucks ranging from small service and delivery units to class eight high- way and off-road trucks servicing the trucking industry throughout Alberta and Western Canada. New deal for Rumble Electric in Toronto TORONTO — Employees of Rumble Electric in Toronto voted unanimously on Nov. 21 to ratify a new three-year collective agreement providing them with increases to wages, benefits and new retirement savings. The 32 electricians and ap- prentices have been repre- sented by CLAC, Local 52 since 2016 when they left the Interna- tional Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) union, says CLAC. The new agreement improves the wage and pension package, with further wage increases of two per cent each year, plus im- provements to on-call pay. The contract also provides improve- ments to employer pension and benefits contributions, says the union. "Everyone worked together to come up with an agreement that was beneficial for both sides," says Keith Gaudaur, CLAC bar- gaining committee member.
