Examinations will be performed by physician of employer's choice and paid at appropriate hourly rate. Training: When employer requires employee to take further training, employee will be paid for all time spent in training at applicable hourly rate. FERRY TRANSPORTATION Bay Ferries Saint John, N.B./Digby, N.S. (40 engineers, officers, supervisors) and Unifor, Atlantic region Renewal agreement: Effective April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2020. Signed on Oct. 2, 2018. Wage adjustments: Effective April 1, 2019: 2% Shift premium: $6 per hour as dirty money for employees when required to clean tanks, separators, boilers, ports, bilges and open-sewage system (will be supplied with heat when performing such duties and supplied with heavy suction while painting in unventilated places). Paid holidays: Employees may take time off in lieu of paid overtime, maximum 4 weeks per year. Vacations with pay: 2 weeks after 1 year, 3 weeks after 6 years, 4 weeks after 10 years; 4% after 1 month, 6% after 61 months, 8% after 120 months. Paid holidays: 9 days plus Heritage Day (when proclaimed). Meal allowance: $50 per day or adequate food provisions or prepared meals for employees when in dry-dock/refit. Weekly indemnity: Coverage of 70% of basic weekly earnings, maximum weekly benefit of $750. AD&D: Coverage of $75,000. Life insurance: Coverage of $75,000. Pension: Employer will contribute 5.25%, employee will contribute 5.25% of regular, statutory holiday and statutory holiday banked earnings into trusted pension plan. Bereavement leave: 7 days for death of father, mother, spouse, child. Maximum 4 days for death of brother, sister, mother- in-law, father-in-law, son-in- law, daughter-in-law. 3 days for death of grandparents. Day of funeral for death of brother-in- law, sister-in-law. Call-in pay: Greater of compensation at applicable overtime rate for any work performed or compensation equivalent to 4 hours of pay at straight-time rate for call-in on rest days. Minimum 4 hours at straight time if during crew change, employee is recalled to work and is subsequently not required. Probationary period: 90 days. Safety shoes: Employer will provide CSA-approved protective footwear to employees every 24 months as per government directives. Uniforms/clothing: Engineer officers, electrician officers and passenger service supervisor/ purser will be supplied with 3 pairs of pants every year; 3 work shirts every year (employee choice, long- or short-sleeved); 2 T-shirts every year; 2 sets of coveralls every year; 1 pair of insulated coveralls every 3 years; 1 3-in-1 multi-climate bomber jacket every 3 years; 1 set of rain gear (every 3 years). Employer will provide 1 pair of regulation epaulets for each position served every 3 years. Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 4% increase): Watchkeeping engineer Per hour: $31.41 rising 2 steps to $32.68 Per overtime hour: $47.10 rising 2 steps to $49.02 Electrician officer Per hour: $31.41 rising 2 steps to $32.68 Per overtime hour: $47.10 rising 2 steps to $49.02 Senior engineer (2 positions) Per hour: $34.01 rising 2 steps to $35.38 Per overtime hour: $51.01 rising 2 steps to $53.07 Passenger-services supervisor Per hour: $23.40 rising 2 steps to $24.35 Per overtime hour: $35.10 rising 2 steps to $36.52 Editor's notes: Weather, vessel breakdown: Employees detained on vessel due to weather or vessel breakdown will receive extra 6 hours of pro-rated pay for every extra 12-hour shift. On-coming or relieving crew will be required to work 7 days continuous. Ferry transportation: All employees will be given maximum 6 free transportations in each year for themselves and immediate household dependent family members on services provided by Bay/Northum- berland Ferries Limited. Any employee with 5 years of service who retires at 65, will continue to have pass privileges until 70. Any employee with 15 years or more of service who retires, draws from pension plan and is not leaving for other employment will have pass privileges for life. Certificates: Employees who obtain certificate covering qualifica- tion senior to current certificate will be paid $250 for expenses incurred. Employees who obtain third-class certificate or better will be paid $1,000 (not in addition to $250).
