The settlements were reached after five months of collective bargaining, says the union. "These tentative agreements mean real improvements for our members," says Stephen Mulgrew, CUPE 394 president. CUPE 394 represents more than 350 outside workers at the public works yard, city parks, stores, and recycling depot. CUPE 718 represents over 1,000 inside workers for the City of Richmond, working in various municipal facilities. Bombardier Montreal workers agree to deal MONTREAL – The Team- sters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) and Bombardier Trans- portation in Montreal reached a tentative agreement on Feb. 13 to renew the collective agree- ment for about 200 workers. The agreement applies to lo- comotive engineers, conductors and shop staff who keep passen- ger trains running in Montreal, says the union. The union's bargaining com- mittee recommended members to ratify the agreement. Teamsters represent almost 125,000 workers in Canada in all industries. Calgary hotel workers gain first contract CALGARY – Workers at Homewood Suites by Hilton Calgary Downtown hotel, who are represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers union (UFCW Canada) UFCW Local 401, achieved a new con- tract on Feb. 15 that provides wage gains, better benefits and a new floater day. The ratification vote came nearly two years after the Alber- ta Labour Relations board ruled that UFCW be certified as the hotel workers' official bargain- ing agent after an employee was fired for their support of union- ization, says the union. "This is an important symbol for Alberta hotel workers who might want to unionize," says Richelle Stewart, UFCW Local 401 secretary treasurer. "If you want to form a union, we will help you do that. And if you do, even though it is a risk when employers break the law, we still will do everything in our power to ensure you get a dignified first union contract." Highlights of the first collec- tive agreement include: • wage increases of two per cent per year for all employees over a five-year term (including two per cent for every hour worked going back to January 2019) • all current employment stan- dards protections, including job-protected leaves of absence improved health benefits • a fresh-start clause, where pre- vious discipline records for em- ployees are eliminated • a floater day off to be taken at any time during the year • a holy-day option, where em- ployees can choose to switch a statutory holiday for another day consistent with their faith. New 3-year deal signed for Topline employees SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — CLAC, Local 52 members employed by Topline Electric in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. ratified a new three-year collective agree- ment on Feb. 6. The contract provides a five- per-cent wage increase over the term, as well as increases to on-call payments and to lead hand and foreperson premiums. Bereavement leave and vision coverage were also enhanced and journeypersons will receive increased pension contribu- tions, says the union. These employees perform electrical work primarily in the industrial-commercial-insti- tutional sectors, according to CLAC.
