GROCERY RETAIL Metro Ontario (Food Basics franchises) Provincewide, Ontario (7,100 grocery store workers) and United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW), Local 175 Renewal agreement: Effective Aug. 19, 2018 to Aug. 19, 2023. Ratified in March 2019. Signed on July 19, 2019. Wage adjustments: Effective Aug. 18, 2019: 2.4% Effective Aug. 23, 2020: 2.4% Effective Aug. 22, 2021: 2% Effective Aug. 21, 2022: 2% Shift premium: $1.60 per hour for hours worked on Sunday for employees hired full-time before June 22, 2004. $0.80 per hour for employees scheduled to work 4 or more hours be- tween 10 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. $1 per hour for night lead clerk. $0.50 per hour for employee assigned responsibilities of office duties in absence of bookkeeper. $8 per shift for clerk assigned store closing responsibilities in absence of store manager or assistant store manager (previously $5 per shift). $6 per shift for employee assigned on temporary basis to management position. Paid holidays: 10 days (9 days for employees hired after Aug. 19, 2012 as those employees are not eligible to take Civic Holi- day off ). Vacations with pay: Employ- ment standards minimum to start, 2 weeks after 1 years, 3 weeks after 5 years, 4 weeks after 10 years, 5 weeks after 18 years (previously 17 years). Overtime: Time and one-half for authorized hours in excess of regular work week (40 hours) or daily hours (8), all hours worked on scheduled day off. Time and one-half for all hours worked on public holiday (minimum 4 hours, previously 6 hours). Double time for work- ing holiday when store is not open for business. Employee called in for overtime will be guaranteed minimum 4 hours of work time (provision will not apply where overtime is worked at beginning of day im- mediately followed by regularly scheduled shift). Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for On- tario Hospital Insurance Plan. Dental: Employer pays $0.26 per hour for all hours worked in store into jointly trusteed dental benefit trust fund des- ignated by union (additional contribution of $0.03 per hour at call of joint trustees). Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums. $25 single and family deductible with 80% co-insurance feature. Plan will provide $200 over 2 years (previously $175 over 2 years) for frames, lens, prescription glasses; $200 over 2 years for artificial eyes, service of visual training, non-cosmetic correc- tive prescription contact lens, resulting from visual acuity of less than 20/40 or corneal dis- ease (special cases only). Laser eye surgery will be covered maximum $175 over 2 years. Paramedical: Employer pays 100% of premiums. STD: 66 2/3% of weekly salary, maximum of $485 per week (previously $400 per week), payable on first day of accident or hospitalization; fourth day of sickness, with STD apply- ing to first 2 weeks of absence, followed by 15 weeks of Ul, fol- lowed by 35 weeks of STD. LTD: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage begin- ning at 53 weeks at 66 2/3% of employee's basic monthly earnings, maximum $1,500 per month. Pension: Employer pays $0.95 per hour (previously $0.75 per hour) into Canadian Commer- cial Workers Industry Pension Plan. Bereavement leave: 3 paid days for death of spouse, par- ent, sibling, parent-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, sibling-in-law, child-in-law, stepparent, stepchild. 1 day can be retained for internment at later date within 1 year. Seniority – recall rights: 12 months; 18 months after 5 years of service. Probationary period: 45 worked days (60 worked days in new stores). Severance: 1 week's notice or pay for employees with more than 3 months' seniority. 2 weeks' notice or with more than 1 year's seniority. Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide each employee with 5 uniform garments per year at no cost, after probation. Employer will supply each store with 1 freezer coat per freezer, but no less than 2 freezer coats per store. Employer will supply 2 garments to each store for use on carry-out, carriage pickups. Sample rates of pay (current, after 4% increase): Grocery produce clerk/cashier, wrapper/service/ (full-time): $18.20 rising 2 steps to $18.90 Grocery produce/clerk/ca- shier/wrapper/service (new full-time after Aug. 19, 2012 with 36 months service): $17.20 rising 2 steps to $17.90 Department heads: $21.20 ris- ing 2 steps to $21.90 Part-time employees (6,501 hours and greater): $14.55 ris- ing 1 step to minimum wage plus $0.60 per hour Students (1,301 to 1,950 hours): student minimum wage plus $0.05 per hour Students (greater than 1,950 hours): student minimum wage plus $0.10 per hour Editor's notes: Termination vacation pay: Employee whose employment is terminated will be given vacation pay: 4% of earnings for work performed with less than 5 years of service; 6% of earnings for work performed with 5 years of service; 8% of earnings for work performed with 10 years of service; 10% of earnings for work performed after 18 years of service.
