Editor's notes: Retention premium: Paid to all employees for each hour worked: $0.75 for first 2 steps of each salary scale; $1.25 for next 2 steps of each salary scale; $1.75 for 3 or 4 higher steps of each salary scale. Payable 3 times per year. Per- sonal days: At start of each reference year, all employees will be entitled to 40 hours of personal days. New employees, af- ter probation period is completed, receive 1 personal day calculated on basis of 6 hours per month (but not exceeding 40 hours) for period between hiring date and end of reference year. All unused personal days are paid out at 100% of regular hourly rate. Employee travel on outside work: Allowance of 60 minutes before departure, 60 minutes after arrival to allow for travel from home and to place of accommodation or work at outside location (location further than 80 kilometres from Montreal International Airport in Dorval), should employees travel on any public transportation system. If employ- ee departs or arrives via Montreal International Airport in Dorval, allowance will be increased by further 60 minutes. Per diem: $15 to cover incidental expenses when employee is working away from home. Standby: $30 for each standby day on day normally off or on statutory holiday. Paid educational leaves: Employer will pay $0.03 per hour per unionized em- ployee for all hours paid into special fund to provide for paid professional development leaves. CONSTRUCTION Construction Labour Relations Alberta Provincewide, Alberta (5,900 carpenters) and the Alberta Regional Council of Carpenters and the Allied Workers and United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC), Local 1325, Edmonton and Local 2103, Calgary Renewal agreement: Effective Nov. 15, 2020 to April 30, 2023. Signed on Nov. 15, 2020. Shift premium: $3.50 per hour (previously $3 per hour) for second or third shift on industrial work; $2 per hour (previously $1.50 per hour) for second or third shift on non- industrial work. Paid holidays: 11 days. Vacations with pay: Employer will pay vacation allowance of 6% of straight-time hourly rate; holiday pay allowance of 4% of straight-time hourly rate for each hour worked (not including any pay for time traveled). Overtime: Time and one-half for first 2 hours of overtime on Monday through Friday inclusive. Time and one-half for first 10 hours worked on Friday when compressed work weeks are scheduled. Double time for all work after 2 hours of overtime or on Saturday or Sunday. Double time after 10 hours per day or 40 hours per week. Meal allowance: Employer will provide meal after 11 hours of work, plus one-hour at straight-time rate to eat meal. Additional hot meal will be provided every additional 4 hours. Employer will provide $50 in lieu of meal and time spent to consume meal on proj- ects when is it impractical for contactor to provide meal. Medical benefits: Employer will contribute $1.60 per hour to health and wellness fund. Pension: Employer will con- tribute to pension trust fund. Call-in pay: Minimum 2 hours' pay at employee's applicable rate. Safety shoes: Employees will report for work equipped with safety boots CSA-approved, grade 1 (green triangle), in good condition, at least 6 inch- es high from sole of boot. Tool allowance: Where tools and equipment such as: patent miter box, power machines, power tools, laser beam level, transit, surveyor's equipment, normally used by carpenters are required on job, they will be supplied by employer. Mileage: $0.52 per kilometre traveled when employees travel beyond 45-kilometre free zone for projects or if employee is required to move from 1 job to another during working hours. Sample rates of hourly pay (current): Industrial employees Journeyman: $46.88 Fourth-year (90%): $42.19 Third-year (80%): $37.50 Second-year (70%): $32.82 First-year (60%): $28.13 Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 2.5% increase): Non-industrial employees Journeyman: $39.86 rising 2 steps to $40.86 Fourth-year (90%): $35.87 ris- ing 2 steps to $36.77 Third-year (80%): $31.89 rising 2 steps to $32.69 Second-year (70%): $27.90 ris- ing 2 steps to $28.60 Editor's notes: Minimum wages: Journeyman rate plus $4.50 per hour for carpenter foreman; journeyman rate plus $6.50 per hour for carpenter general foreman; journeyman rate plus $1.50 per hour (previously $1 per hour) for general foreman or foreman engaged in industrial work (if that person has achieved industrial construction crew supervisor des- ignation from Alberta apprenticeship and industry training); journeyman rate plus $3.75 per hour (previously $3.50 per hour) for carpenter foreman; journeyman rate plus $5.75 per hour for carpenter general foreman; journeyman rate plus $1.50 per hour for carpenter lead hand. Mandatory training: Training trust fund will provide and fund compulsory training for all workers: CSTS, CSO, H2S, Energy Safety Canada Fall Arrest and Confined Space, or equivalents. Where required by employer, employees will also be trained on first aid, aerial work platform, any other training as agreed to.
