Now, the Ottawa- based tech company boasts 50, thanks in large part to Barlow's work in recruiting and as a D&I advocate. "It's been quite a journey helping shape the culture at Iversoft — learning what really makes people happy at work, and building our organization around it," said Barlow, Director of People and Culture. Barlow and her team's efforts to create a better workplace were recognized by Hire Immigrants Ottawa (HIO), which awarded Iversoft the 2021 Employer Excellence Award. Working with organizations like HIO to broaden the talent pool is "so fundamentally important," she said. "One thing that is extremely important to us in the hiring process, especially in a competitive industry like technology, is a heavy emphasis on bringing in new ideas and perspectives. Having a diverse hiring pool is really how that's accomplished." As a D&I advocate, Barlow is a public speaker and panelist for multiple organizations, including World Skills and Women IT Teleworkers. The key to her success is simple. "Working directly with the team is absolutely critical. I love working with people. If I'm rolling out initiatives that will affect people individually, I want to make sure that it's a collaborative process based on constructive conversations with them."
