4 Canadian HR Reporter, a Thomson Reuters business 2016 COLLECTIVE AGREEMENTS April 11, 2016 COLLECTIVE AGREEMENTS EDUCATION Dalhousie University Halifax (280 service and maintenance employees) and the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU) Local 99 Renewal agreement: Effective July 1, 2014, to June 30, 2017. Signed on Nov. 23, 2015. Wage adjustments: Effective July 1, 2014: 2% Effective July 1, 2015: 1.75% Effective July 1, 2016: 1.5% Shift premium: $1.50 per hour for all time worked between 4 p.m. and 8 a.m. $1.50 per hour for all hours worked during the weekend shift. $2 per hour for general foreperson. $1 per hour for working foreperson. $1.50 per hour for acting security supervisor. $1 per hour for em- ployees with more than 1 trade certificate. Paid holidays: 12 days. Vacations with pay: 0.83 days per complete month or regu- lar service to a maximum of 2 weeks to start, 1.25 days per months after 1 year, 1.67 days per month after 10 years, 2.08 days per month after 20 years and 2.25 days per month after 25 years. Overtime: Time and one-half for all hours worked beyond regularly scheduled hours. Double time for all hours worked between 12 a.m. and 8 a.m. Meal allowance: $8 when an employee is required to work 2 hours beyond regular working hours. Further meal allowances will be provided every 4 hours thereafter. Medical benefits: Employer pays 60% of premiums for the Voluntary Major Medical Insurance Plan. Employees who hold a 50% or greater full- time equivalency position will have $500 credited to a Health Spending Account. Dental: Employer pays 50% of premiums for the Dental Insur- ance Plan. Sick leave: 10 hours per month to a maximum accumulation of 1,600 hours for full-time employees. 8 hours per month to a maximum of 45 days for full-time term and full-time probationary employees. Bereavement leave: 5 days for employee's spouse, child or par- ent. 3 days for employee's sib- ling, grandparent, grandchild, father-in-law, mother-in-law or stepchild. 1 day for employee's son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law or sister-in-law. Seniority – recall rights: 1 year. Call-in pay: 4 hours at time and one-half or hours worked at time and one-half, whichever is greater. 4 hours at double time or all hours worked at double time, whichever is greater, when an employee is called in between 12 a.m. and 8 a.m. Probationary period: 1,040 hours worked to a maximum of 1 year. The probationary period may be extended, provided the parties mutually agree in writ- ing. Discipline: Sunset clause is 1 year. The period is extended to 5 years for serious offences. Safety shoes: 1 pair of uniform boots or shoes will be issued to security employees every 2 years. $100 per year for the purchase of CSA-approved safety footwear for employees working in trades, grounds and trucking, mailroom or custodial crews. Uniforms/clothing: Employer provides rain gear, coveralls, heavy-duty rubber gloves, rub- ber boots and leather-faced gloves. Tuition waiver: Regular full-time and regular part- time employees are entitled to up to 12 credit hours in a 12-month period. The spouse or children of an employee with 2 or more years of seniority are entitled to 50% tuition fee waiver in any undergraduate program in any faculty other than Dentistry, Law and Medicine. Children where both parents are employees will receive a 100% tuition fee waiver. Retirement: The normal age of retirement is the July 1 following the employee's 65th birthday. Pregnancy leave: 17 weeks. Personal emergency leave: 4 hours per year. POLICE SERVICES Conseil de Bande de Uashat Mak Mani-Utenam Uashat, Que. (13 police officers) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 5147 Renewal agreement: Effective July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2017. Signed on Dec. 3, 2015. Wage adjustments: Effective July 1, 2015: 1.91% Effective July 1, 2016: 1.5% Paid holidays: 15 days. Vacations with pay: 12 hours per month of service to a maxi- mum of 120 hours to start, 3 weeks after 1 year, 4 weeks after 5 years and 5 weeks after 10 years. Overtime: Time and one-half for all hours worked beyond 8 hours per day or 40 hours per Regular employees are entitled to up to 12 credit hours' tuition waivers in a 12-month period.
