Fred Victor OPSEU workers get strike mandate TORONTO — Members of the Ontario Public Service Employ- ees Union (OPSEU) working at Fred Victor Centre in Toronto- have voted 88 per cent in favour of strike action if talks fail. "The members came together and decided we have to stand firm if we're going to negotiate a fair contract," said Marg Rob- inson, OPSEU Local 509 vice- president. Key issues on the table include workplace violence, stress leave, alternate work arrangements, wages and benefits for relief and casual staff. Fred Victor Centre is a non- profit agency that provides pro- grams and support for people experiencing homelessness. Hatchery workers sign EDMONTON — UFCW Can- ada Local 1118 members work- ing at the Lilydale hatchery in Edmonton, Alta., ratified a new agreement. "We came out of this process with a better collective agree- ment for the 1118 members, and a strong foundation to build on for future negotiations," said Mi- chael Hughes, UFCW Canada local 1118 director. The workers service Sofina Foods' partners, which is the parent company of Lilydale. Highlights of the new four- year agreement include: across- the-board wage increases (retro- active to Februay 2016) of $0.40 in each year of the deal, a new shift premium for afternoon and night shift workers, new safety footwear allowance, according to the union. The deal also includes: im- provements to working condi- tions for truck drivers, improve- ments to dental and vision care benefits, improvements to the RRSP program, strengthened seniority provisions governing work assignments and improved language on the use of sick leave and doctor's notes, said the union. Niagara-on- the-Lake plant strike ends NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ont. — A two-week strike at Industrial Management Group in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., is over after Unifor Local 199 rati- fied a new deal. "It was the union response to support our demands and defend the picket line from the employer's attempts to gain ac- cess that made a difference," said Doug Orr, national representa- tive. Workers at Industrial Man- agement Group, previously Seneca Manufacturing, voted overwhelmingly in favor of the agreement reached yesterday, according to the union. The deal includes payment of lost wages withheld by the em- ployer and full settlement for the arbitration and Labour Relations Board rulings, said the union. The agreement allows for the terms of the current agree- ment to be enforced month-to- month, as well as a continued relationship with the employer's current customers into 2017 as it looks for new investment, ac- cording to the union.
