USW reaches
agreement
with 2 Ontario
employers
PEMBROKE, Ont. — New
settlements for workers at two
Renfrew County employers will
mean a more secure future in
2017, said the United Steelwork-
ers union (USW).
Employees at Pemco, maker
of steel components, in Pem-
broke, Ont., have negotiated an
agreement that includes a new,
union-trusteed multi-employer
pension plan, improved wages,
vacation and benefits until 2019,
according to the union.
At Samuel, Son and Co., a steel
service facility, workers have also
negotiated a three-year agree-
ment, which includes an im-
proved registered pension plan,
a new, short-term-disability
plan, wage increases and bene-
fits, said the union.
"With all the negative news
about worker displacement in
today's economy, it remains the
union's top priority to negotiate
good contracts with employers
who respect their workers and
their rights," said Marty Warren,
USW Ontario director. "
Steelworkers' union members
at Pemco and Samuel, Son. and
Co., are members of USW local
6946, an amalgamated union lo-
cal.
