Air Georgian,
CUPE ratify
fi rst contract
TORONTO — Air Georgian rati-
fied a three-year collective bar-
gaining agreement with the Cana-
dian Union of Public Employees
(CUPE), Local 4059 on Oct. 29.
CUPE represents Air Geor-
gian's 83 flight attendants work-
ing out of the company's Toron-
to base.
Highlights of the agreement
include compensation increas-
es, an RRSP-contribution pro-
gram, performance incentives,
an increase in days off as well as
a three-tiered benefits plan, said
the company.
Air Georgian began flying
for Air Canada in 2000, making
it the longest-serving capacity
purchase agreement partner of
the Air Canada family.
Air Georgian operates more
than 64,000 regional flights per
year on behalf of Air Canada,
carrying more than 1.5 million
passengers a year to 31 domestic
and U.S. destinations.
Durham
transit workers
sign new deal
OSHAWA, Ont. — Durham Re-
gion transit workers in Ontario,
represented by Unifor, Local 222,
ratified a new four-year collec-
tive agreement on Oct. 23 with
PWTransit.
The new agreement includes
an eight per cent wage increase
over the term, a 42.5-hour
threshold for overtime and
enhanced benefits, according to
Unifor.
Unifor, Local 222 was also able
to secure a women's-advocate
position, paid domestic-vio-
lence leave and anti-harassment
training, said the union.
Toromont Cat
workers reach
agreement
BRAMPTON, Ont. — Workers
at the Toromont Cat Power Sys-
tems plant voted to ratify a new
three-year collective agreement
on Oct. 21.
"Congratulations to the mem-
bers and the bargaining com-
mittee in securing funding to
Unifor's Social Justice Fund and
Women's Advocate Program,"
said Scott Mcllmoyle, Unifor
Ontario regional council chair-
person and president of Local
112.
Unifor, Local 112 represents
55 skilled trades and production
workers at the Toromont Cat
Power Systems plant in Bramp-
ton, Ont.
The new contract includes an-
nual wage increases, improved
contract language, an increase in
benefits for work boots, ortho-
dontist, dental and vision-care
benefits, said the union.
Westpark
Centre
workers
join ONA
TORONTO — The Ontario
Nurses' Association (ONA) wel-
comed health-care professionals
from Westpark Healthcare Cen-
tre in Toronto on Oct. 22.
The employees have become
increasingly concerned about
short-staffing at the hospital, ac-
cording to the union.
"They contacted ONA after
seeing the union stand up for
its registered-nurse members
at Westpark and were keen to
become members," said ONA
president Vicki McKenna.
ONA represents more than
65,000 nurses and health-care
professionals, as well as 18,000
nursing students, providing care
in hospitals, long-term care fa-
cilities, public health, and the
community, clinics and industry.
