Seniority – recall rights: 24 months for officer who is promoted or transferred to position within company but outside bargaining unit. Period equal to seniority or 2 years, whichever is less, for layoffs or for employee who is unable to perform normal duties due to illness or accident. Probationary period: 90 sea days, excluding lay-up. Discipline: Sunset clause is 24 months for records of disciplinary actions. Severance: 4 days' pay for each year of service, maximum 60 days basic pay, (without leave pay) after 6 years of service. Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide 3 pairs of ordinary coveralls per year; 1 pair of insulated coveralls or winter jacket and pants per year (replaced as required); floater suits, rain gear as required and while working on deck in inclement weather; 1 hard hat as required; 1 balaclava (replaced as required); 1 pair of work gloves per year (replaced as required); any other PPE that may be required. Employer will provide $500 per year for footwear, personal PPE, uniform, thermal underwear (previously $180 per year for footwear; $200 per year for uniforms/thermal underwear). Mileage: $0.56 per kilometre; thereafter kilometric rate as set by federal government. Sample rates of annual pay (current): Chief mate/second engineer: $138,692.89 Second mate/third engineer: $113,516.97 Third mate/fourth engineer: $97,607.75 Sample rates of hourly pay (current): Stevedoring rates (cleaning cargo hold which was carrying fuel) Chief officer/second engineer: $37.98 Second officer/third engineer: $36.79 Third officer/fourth engineer: $35.59 Editor's notes: Medical fitness: Employer may cause employee to be medically examined at any time and employer will be responsible for all costs associated with medical test. Travel expenses: $40 (paid via ship's cash) for meals, when not provided onboard vessel by cook. Rooms, when not provided aboard vessel, will be paid by employer. Seniority bonus: $1,000 for each year of service, maximum 12 years, at which point bonus will be paid at maximum rate for each year of service after 12 years. To be eligible, employee must have completed probation or 180 days over previous 12-month period, as of Jan. 1 of that year. Marine disasters: Maximum $6,000 for employees who suffer loss of personal effects through wreck or marine disaster. Legal defence fund: Employer will pay $2 per employee per day for legal defence insurance. Wage adjustments: Effective Aug. 11, 2019: 2% Effective March 1, 2020: 2% Shift premium: $2 per hour worked as relief for first cook assigned to relieve chef. Paid holidays: 11 days. Vacations with pay: 2 weeks or 4% after 6 months, 3 weeks or 6% after 5 years. Overtime: Time and one-half for all work after 8 hours per day or 44 hours per week. Medical benefits: Employer pays 70% of premiums, employee pays 30% of premiums. Dental: Employer pays 70% of premiums, employee pays 30% of premiums. Coinsurance of 80% for routine basic services; 50% for major procedures, combined maximum $2,000 per person per year. Coinsurance of 50% for orthodontics for children younger than 19, lifetime maximum of $1,500. Recall exams 1 every 5 months, maximum 2 per year. Vision: 100% coverage, maximum $300 in any 12-month period for person under 19; every 24 months for any other person. LTD: Employer pays 70% of premiums, employee pays 30% of premiums. AD&D: Employer pays 70% of premiums, employee pays 30% of premiums. Life insurance: Employer pays 70% of premiums, employee pays 30% of premiums. Bereavement leave: 3 days for death in immediate family (spouse, life-partner, mother, father, brother, sister, children, stepparents, stepchild, stepsister, stepbrother, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren). Seniority – recall rights: 150 days (seniority will accrue during this period). Probationary period: 60 days worked. Discipline: Sunset clause is 1 year from incident giving rise to discipline. Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide, free of charge to employees, safety supplies, articles of clothing and footwear which are deemed necessary for employee's safety and health. Employer will provide winter clothing, winter footwear to employees who work outside on continuous basis. Employer will supply suitable seasonal protective clothing for unloading of supplies. Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 4% increase): First cook: $23.61 rising 2 steps to $24.56 Second cook: $19.71 rising 2 steps to $20.50 Night cook/baker: $23.61 rising 2 steps to $24.56 General helper: $19.09 rising 2 steps to $19.86 Room attendant: $19.09 rising 2 steps to $19.86 Signing bonus: Employees on payroll, as of Aug. 8, 2019, will receive 1-time signing bonus of $250, less statutory deductions. Employees on layoff, with recall rights, will receive signing bonus upon return to work. Editor's notes: Transportation costs: $100 per month while employed.
