EXTRUSION MANUFACTURER APEL Extrusions Calgary (87 labourers, operators, packer, maintenance employees) and the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union (USW), Local 6034 Renewal agreement: Effective July 1, 2017, to June 30, 2021. Ratified on Jan. 13, 2018. Signed on July 1, 2017. Shift premium: 8-hour shifts: $0.45 per hour for afternoons; $0.65 per hour for nights. 10- hour shifts: $0.51 per hour for p.m. 12-hour shifts: $0.60 per hour for p.m. $1.10 per hour (previously $2.50 per hour) for dual-trade journeyman. Paid holidays: 12 days, plus APEL day as floating holiday. Vacations with pay: 1 day per month, maximum 10 days or 4% to start, 2 weeks or 4% after 1 year, 3 weeks or 6% after 4 years, 4 weeks or 8% after 10 years, 5 weeks or 10% after 20 years. Overtime: Time and one-half after 8 hours per day, double time after 10 hours per day. Time and one-half for work on first scheduled day off, double time for work on second sched- uled day off. Double time for work on Sunday and for second overtime shift per week. Meal allowance: $10 after 2 hours of overtime if employee was not notified of overtime prior to completion of regular shift on preceding day. Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for Al- berta Health Care Insurance. Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums. $2,500 maximum per year on combined basic and major restorative care, maximum 80%. $2,000 lifetime maximum on orthodontics on dependent children 6 to 19 years old per child at 50% reim- bursement. Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $450 per family member every 2 years. Paramedical: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $200 per family member per year for chiropractor, physio- therapy, naturopath, massage therapy. Weekly indemnity: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 60% of weekly earn- ings. LTD: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $1,150. AD&D: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $50,000. Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $50,000. Pension: All employees will participate in APEL Calgary Hourly Employees Pension Plan. Pension contributions are 5%. Employees in job classes 1 and 2 must contribute 3% but have option of matching any amount over 3% if pension plan permits. Bereavement leave: 3 days for death in family (spouse (including common-law, same- sex relationships), children, mother, father, brother, sister or spouse's mother, father, sister, brother, spouse's or employee's grandchildren). 1 day for death of employee's or spouse's grand- parents. 1 additional day plus 6 days without pay if funeral is more than 500 kilometres away from Calgary. Call-in pay: Minimum 2 hours' pay at double time. Probationary period: 320 hours worked over 6 months. Discipline: Sunset clause is 12 months. Safety shoes: $185 per year for approved safety footwear. Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide aprons, acid-resist- ant rain gear, arm guards, ear plugs, face shields, hot mitts, hard hats, inclement-weather clothing (for forklift operators), respirators approved for use with chemicals or hazardous materials employee is required to handle. Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 4.6% increase): Labourer: $18.73 rising 3 steps to $19.59 Stretcher operator/packer (P)/ packer (A)/die-man helper/ maintenance helper: $26.69 ris- ing 3 steps to $27.91 Saw operator/booth operator/ crane operator/fabrication operator/receiver/forklift op- erator/waste treatment: $27.99 rising 3 steps to $29.26 Line operator/shipper: $29.32 rising 3 steps to $30.66 Certified die-corrector: $30.23 rising 3 steps to $31.61 Journeyman maintenance: $38.15 rising 3 steps to $39.89 Editor's notes: Safety glasses: Employer will provide non-prescription and prescription glasses, with standard safety frames. Maximum 1 pair every 2 years per employee. Safety training: Employer will pay $3,000 per year for health and safety training of APEL employees. Shift premium: 13% when employee performs duties of position at higher classification level on acting basis for at least 1 consecutive working day per year. $2.20 per hour (previously $2.05 per hour) for each hour worked after 4 p.m. for employ- ee whose regular shift is worked after 4 p.m. and ends prior to 8 a.m. $1.90 per hour (previ- ously $1.70 per hour) for hours worked prior to 8 a.m. and after 4 p.m. on weekend. 12% (previously 10%) for employees performing lead-hand duties, responsibilities. $0.50 per hour for employees who possess occupational first aid level 1 certification or any other first- aid certificate recognized by government of British Colum- bia. $0.65 per hour for employ- ees who possess occupational first aid level 2 certification. Paid holidays: 11 days, plus 1 floater day. Vacations with pay: 1 1/4 days per month or 15 days to start, 1 2/3 days per month or 20 days after 5 years, 2 1/12 days per month or 25 days after 10 years, 2 1/2 days per month or 30 days after 20 years. Overtime: Time and one-half for all work after 7 1/2 hours per day or 37 1/2 hours per week, double time after 2 hours of overtime. Time and one-half for all work on first day of rest, double time for all work on second day of rest (provided employee worked on first day of rest). Meal allowance: After 3 hours of overtime immediately fol- lowing scheduled hours of work, employee will be given allowance equal to lunch rate set out in meal allowance and incidental rate schedule as pub- lished by Treasury Board.
